August 11th was the date for the second annual 86fest featuring the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ in many flavors at the Auto Club Speedway
“The inaugural 86FEST event in October of 2012 began as an idea between Antoino Alvendia and Kevin Tidwell: to create an informal meet for fans and owners of the newly introduced Toyota/Subaru “86†platform (sold as Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ in North America) in Southern California. The reception on social media a week after posting the meet online was overwhelming and they quickly realized that the meet would be more like an event given the popularity. Within 30 days of the decision to host a meet, 86FEST was born and it became the largest attended 86 Festival in North America with over 2,500 people in attendance” – http://86fest.com/index.php?pageid=about-us
Whether you are a car enthusiast, an enthusiast for engineering, or simply a groupie from the anime Initial D, the AE86 is in your favorite car list. The new Scion (Toyota) FR-S and Subaru BRZ give homage to the classic AE86 Toyota Corolla. What a better way to further celebrate the return of the 86 form factor than making a festival for it. That is what the people of86Fest.com‎ have done. 86Fest has organized a meet for those enthusiasts to boast their cars and passion for the FT86 and AE86. Because of the vast following of the reincarnation of this automotive masterpiece, performance and accessory manufacturers have created an array of upgrades for this platform, becoming one of the fastest growing and biggest platforms for OEM manufactures. Lets see if Toyota follows suit and brings back the Supra, Mitsubishi their 3000GT, Nissan their SX series, and the coveted RX series by Mazda.
