Moroccan Dog, an alt-rock group based in Seattle, is set to release their self-titled debut EP on August 12th along with a music video for their song “Spring.”

Formed a couple of years ago, the band has already developed a cult following within their city. According to their website, one of their shows was so packed with impassioned fans that doors were ripped off of their hinges.

The band’s dynamic grunge sound is a direct result of frontman Callan Spafford’s upbringing. Growing up, Spafford was mentored by rock legend Chris Cornell, who was his godfather. REM and King Crimson drummer Bill Reiflin also mentored Spafford.

“I feel so grateful to have been able to have mentorship from the same people that influenced me so profoundly,” Spafford said in a statement. “It was just my reality, but like anyone I had to find my place in it.”

Spafford also said the album is an expression of an “intense sadness” he has felt for much of his life.

“I guess that if I can’t feel any better, I might as well try my best to make something as beautiful as I can from it,” he said in a statement.

Co-producing the album is Sky Cries Mary guitarist Michael Cozzi and music engineer Adam Burd, whose former collaborations include Fleet Foxes and Car Seat Headrest.

In a statement, Cozzi said of the album, “Although Moroccan Dog has only been around for a couple of years, you wouldn’t think so. The songs have a maturity way beyond their years.”

The debut of both the album and the music video will take place at the Cha Cha Lounge in Seattle on August 12th.
