Ice T announced the first ever Art of Rap Music Festival that took place on Saturday at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater in Irvine, CA and was hosted by Chief Rocker Busy Bee. This two day event took place on July 18th in Irvine and on July 19th in Mountain View, CA at the Shoreline Amphitheater. Ice T himself and The Game served as headliners.

The festival featured two stages where fans were able enjoy over twenty-five performers. The lineup included: Rakim, EPMD, DJ Quik, Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, Melle Mel, Kurtis Blow, Slick Rick, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Warren G and others. It couldn’t be a full festival experience without featuring the break-dancers, the DJ area, live graffiti artists, vendors, and much more.

With festival season coming around the corner, the Art of Rap Music Festival took place at the right time this summer. The legends of old school rap took the stage and with rain or shine the show went on. Everyone including old school hip hop fans and new fans saw performances that gave them the feel of the real hip hop culture, but especially to those who weren’t familiar with this type of music. Once the rain stopped the crowd began to get pumped up for the performances. By the end of the night The Game’s performance had everyone on their feet with their hands in the air and singing to the lyrics.

After Ice T performed he spoke to the crowd and explained his intentions of this festival. As for the lineup, he said he chose people who don’t have the hottest records on the radio today because he wanted to get the respect that hip hop deserves. The Art of Rap Music Festival wasn’t an ordinary festival that people attend nowadays. It was a festival to show that hip hop is an actual culture and it’s something that needs to be brought back. It was a night to remember and I hope this was just the beginning for Art of Rap. It should definitely go on tour and take place every summer.
