Comedians Nick Kroll and John Mulaney to host Spirit Awards on February 25

Comedians and co-creators of the Broadway production, “Oh, Hello On Broadway,” Nick Kroll and John Mulaney are slated to co-host the 32nd Spirit Awards announced yesterday by Film Independent.

As a fundraising event for Film Independent year-round shows, past hosts of the Spirit Awards included actors such as Samuel L. Jackson, Queen Latifah, Kirsten Bell and comedians like Joel McHale, Andy Samberg and Sarah Silverman. However, when choosing hosts for this year’s edition, IFC president Jennifer Caserta said she wanted multi-talented stars.

“This year I asked Film Independent to find us two super talented multi hyphenates to take on the hosting duties for the Spirit Awards, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Nick and John to our stage,” said Caserta.

Acclaimed Comedy Central star of the three-season series “Kroll fi_spiritawards_primary_logoShow,” and FXX series “The League,” Kroll is also a writer and producer accredited to Seth Rogen’s “Sausage Party,” “Date Night,” and “Get Him To The Greek.”  Along with starring in 2016 animated smash “Sing,” and “Loving,” he has also made guest appearances in comedy TV shows such as “New Girl,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Community.”

Currently working as a writer for IFC “Documentary Now” and voice actor for Netflix’s “Big Mouth,” Mulaney is also an Emmy® Award recipient and nominee for his third one-hour stand-up comedy special.  Although he has his own series on Netflix, “The Comeback Kid,” Mulaney began his comedic career as “Stefon” and “Weekend Update” anchor on “Saturday Night Live” in 2008.

Although taking the world by storm as a dynamic pair, each man still has a long list of individual success. Film Independent President, Josh Welsh said “their world domination will be complete,” with their pending host statuses.

“From film to television to Broadway, Nick Kroll and John Mulaney have been almost everywhere – and now their world domination will be complete when they host the 2017 Film Independent Spirit Awards,” said Welsh. “We couldn’t think of two smarter, funnier people to host our show, and look forward to having them on the beach on Saturday, February 25.”

The award ceremony will be live broadcasted on Saturday, February 25 on IFC at 2pm PT and 5pm ET. Check out the list of this year’s nominees here.
