Following the Angels decision to revamp the Platinum Triangle, on Wednesday, the Anaheim Ducks revealed what they have had in mind for their side of the 57 freeway. Similar to the Angels, “OC Vibe,” as they have called it will give the new area a community feel. Thus, visitors will be able to eat, drink, and shop before and after events.
“We wanted to make this as much fun on Saturday morning as it will be on Saturday night,” said the master planner for the project Dan Young.
The OC Vibe is envisioned to be mellow by day and energetic by night. The inspiration comes from L.A. Live.
Tim Ryan, CEO of ocV!BE Sports & Entertainment mentioned that the place “will provide a live work and play community of a scale not seen in Orange County, with live entertainment events and activities year-round.” As a city official summed up it up, this will be more easily understood as “L.A. Live on steroids.”
With a lot more space than L.A. Live itself, they hope to become as successful as all the other community spots.
The project will not only allow for 2,800 new apartments and 15% reserved for affordable housing but office space too. The Honda Center entrance would be enhanced with a larger entrance plaza that could be used for holiday skating or large parties. Two hotels, four parking structures, and a redesigned Katella Avenue off ramp from the 57 Freeway is included in the OC Vibe project as well.
While the project was just submitted for approval, the start of construction is targeted for 2024 and the completion four years later in 2028.
And, as for the Angels’ similar work project, according to Young, the two teams have worked with one another throughout the process. Both projects would add about 16,000 residents to the area with a total of 268 acres combined.
