The famed alien from the 80’s E.T. returns in a television commercial spot with Elliott (Henry Thomas) for the holidays. It has been 37-years since the last time we have seen them together on any screen but this holiday spot has gotten many excited to see them together.
“The audience is going to get everything they want out of a sequel without the messy bits that could destroy the beauty of the original and the special place it has in people’s minds and hearts. It’s really a win-win,” said Henry Thomas.
Thomas added, “Looking at the storyboards, I could see exactly why Steven (Spielberg) was really behind it, because the integrity of the story isn’t lost in this retelling.”
The holidays are always a time for people to reconnect. This year, Comcast NBCUniversal is continuing a timeless story of friendship by reuniting two beloved characters – E.T. and Elliott. This holiday short story brings together the creative and innovative companies that are a part of Comcast. In this story, iconic characters from Universal Pictures’ E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial tell the story of a timeless connection using technology from Xfinity and Sky.
E.T. is back on earth for a surprise visit with Elliott, who now has his own family. Although technology has changed our world since they’ve last seen each other 37 years ago, their connection and friendship remains strong and is a touching reminder of how important reconnecting is during the holiday season.
This story was made in connection with Universal Pictures, part of the Comcast family of companies. We are honored to be able to bring back these characters this holiday season. We hope seeing the reunion story of E.T.and Elliott inspires families everywhere to watch the movie together – whether it’s their first time or 25th time seeing it.
To give more families the opportunity to experience the magic of E.T. this holiday season, we will be featuring the film on SYFY on Thanksgiving Day and making it available on demand for Xfinity TV customers. Xfinity TV customers with X1 will be able to say “E.T. Phone Home” into their Voice Remote for an E.T.-themed destination. Also, anyone who visits a Xfinity retail location can pick up a special E.T. coloring book and candy.
“Our goal is to show how Xfinity and Sky technology connects family, friends and loved ones, which is so important during the holidays. The classic friendship between E.T. and Elliott resonates around the world, and their story became a very meaningful way to bring our company’s consumer technology to life,” said Peter Intermaggio, Senior Vice President for Marketing Communications, Comcast Cable.
