Fans will have to wait a little longer to see how the story of Dominic Torreto and his crew will continue after a year of setbacks brought by a global pandemic. The latest installment to the Fast and Furious saga, F9, has been pushed back from May 28th to June 25th.

No official statement has been made by Universal as to the reason behind this push back. However, given the timing of President Biden’s announcement that there will be enough vaccines available to vaccinate almost everyone in the United States. It stands to reason that this push back is to ensure that audiences will be able to watch the film in theaters, and ensure high box office numbers.

Since its release in 2001 with the titular film The Fast and the Furious. This saga has managed to rank in millions of dollars at the box office, produce two short films, spinoffs and has garnered a cult following. Its initial premise of illegal street racing on the streets of Los Angeles has now evolved to international heist and espionage.

When fans last saw Dom and his crew they had just taken down Cypher, a cyber terrorist bent on using the spy software “Gods eye” – a key plot from Furious 7 – to control government leaders. In the film, Cypher uses Dom’s infant son with Elena – who he meant while in Rio in Fast 5 – to control him into working for her and turning his back against his crew. In an attempt to turn the tables on Cypher, Dom enlists the help of Owen and Luke Shaw – to criminals from Fast and Furious 6 and Fast 7 – to help rescue his son, avenge Elenas murder and stop Cypher.

Now, in F9, Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew will join together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob. Along the way, old friends will be resurrected, old foes will return, history will be rewritten, and the true meaning of family will be tested like never before.
