World famous fashion designer, Kate Spade, was found dead Tuesday inside her Upper East Side apartment, according to police. She was 55.
Officials say she hanged herself with a red scarf inside her apartment and was found by a housekeeper at about 10:10 a.m. They say a note was left at the scene, addressed to her 13-year-old daughter.
Kate Spade New York released a statement confirming the news of their founders death.
“Our thoughts are with her family at this incredibly heartbreaking time,” the company said in a tweet.

Spade created luxury handbags since the early 1990s, and her company, Kate Spade New York has over 140 retail shops in the U.S. and more than 175 shops internationally.
In 2017, the handbag maker announced plans for Coach to buy Kate Spade in a $2.4 billion deal.
