The attraction, called Thrill Glider, combines elements of flying coasters, motorbike-style vehicles and suspended coaster technology into what the park is branding a “Thrillglider.” It was designed exclusively for Magic Mountain by Dutch manufacturer Vekoma.

Riders will board vehicles the park calls “hovercycles,” lying in a prone, face-forward position suspended beneath the track. The ride’s terrain-following layout includes 20 track elements packed into roughly 80 seconds, according to the park.

Six Flags said the coaster will launch riders multiple times to speeds of up to 50 mph, include 12 moments of airtime and feature five inversions — a wing-over, zero-g roll, overbanked stall turn, barrel roll and upward barrel roll — over a course covering nearly 3.5 acres.

Upon its debut, the park says Thrill Glider will hold several records for its category, including world’s first multi-launch Thrillglider, world’s longest at 3,380 feet, world’s fastest at 50 mph, world’s tallest at 107 feet and most inversions with five.

The ride will carry a science-fiction theme centered on a fictional company called QuantumPulse Propulsion Systems, led by a character described as inventor Rebecca Silva. According to the park, the queue will lead guests through a themed building called “The Futurist Pavilion,” featuring displays about a fictional energy source called PSR B417 before riders board the coaster.

“Thrill Glider is more than a new attraction. It is the latest milestone in Six Flags Magic Mountain’s renaissance and a reflection of the park’s enduring role as an industry innovator,” said Brian Oerding, the park’s president, in a statement.

The coaster will have a minimum height requirement of 48 inches, making it accessible to a broader range of riders than some of the park’s other attractions, Six Flags said.

Thrill Glider is being built on the site of the former Golden Bear Theatre, between the Full Throttle and Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom coasters and near the park’s Looney Tunes Land area. Construction is underway, though the park has not announced a specific opening date beyond 2027.

Six Flags is currently selling 2027 season passes that include admission to the park for the remainder of 2026, along with access to other West Coast parks under the Six Flags brand, including Knott’s Berry Farm.

It’s Sept. 1, which means that, arguably, it’s time for Halloween season! Though some theme parks have already started celebrating the Halloween season, I wanted to break down some of the cornerstone and flagship Halloween-themed experiences in Southern California.

Knott’s Scary Farm & Knott’s Spooky Farm — Knott’s Berry Farm, Buena Park, California

The original theme park haunt returns with new haunts and entertainment on select nights from Sept. 17 through Oct. 31. With 10 houses (mazes), stage shows and roaming scare actors, it will surely continue to delight and fright guests.

Halloween Horror Nights — Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal City, California

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood puts guests into a world of horror and thrills from the big screen on select nights from Sept. 3 through Nov. 1.

Every year, Universal Studios creates experiences and haunted houses themed around some of the most popular — and infamous — horror icons and franchises. Don’t forget about the famous Terror Tram, which takes guests who dare to ride onto the movie sets of the backlot, where they are put in the middle of the chaos as monsters, killers and creatures are let loose.

Queen Mary Dark Harbor — Long Beach, California

Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor transforms the legendary Queen Mary into a terrifying Halloween experience filled with haunted mazes, sinister characters, immersive scare zones, live entertainment and eerie encounters inspired by the ship’s haunted history.

If the stories and experiences reported by visitors to the ship don’t scare you, the ghouls, monsters and lost souls just might.

The second wave of presale tickets is available on the Dark Harbor website for select dates from Sept. 18 through Nov. 1.

Howl-O-Scream — SeaWorld San Diego, San Diego, California

This year brings an exciting first for the event with its first IP-based haunted house, inspired by the iconic horror franchise “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

Now in its sixth season, the event continues to establish itself as a premier Halloween experience in Southern California. Tickets are available for select nights from Sept. 11 through Oct. 31 on SeaWorld San Diego’s website.

These are just a handful of the largest haunt events taking place during the Halloween season. There are also a number of more family-centered “spooky” experiences for younger guests, which we will be highlighting soon.

Universal Studios Hollywood will open its first outdoor, high-speed roller coaster Sept. 16, marking what park officials call an unprecedented addition to the theme park’s decades-long history of attractions.

“Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” is billed as the fastest coaster in the Universal Destinations & Experiences portfolio. The ride draws on Universal Pictures’ Fast & Furious franchise, an 11-film series worth $7 billion that celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The franchise’s next installment, “Fast Forever,” is scheduled for release in March 2028.

The coaster is on the Upper Lot of Universal Studios Hollywood, housed within a red brick garage-like structure. Two stationary replica cars serve as photo props outside the entrance, and guests pass through an archway into the queue.

A segment of the ride’s track passes through a transparent, encased section of the queue — a feature the park says is a technological first — allowing waiting guests to watch trains in motion before boarding.

The ride features a dual-launching, split-track system that alternates trains from the dispatch point. Riders travel over and under the park’s multilevel Starway escalator through four launches, an inverted dive loop, a twisted pretzel loop and an inverted stall, among other elements. The coaster reaches speeds up to 72 mph and forces up to 3.6 Gs along 4,100 feet of track built with sound-reduction technology. Ride vehicles rotate 360 degrees independently throughout the course.

Riders are secured with lap-bar harnesses in one of four vehicles modeled after cars from the film franchise: a Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R and Toyota Supra. Each vehicle has an independent audio system with engine sounds specific to that car, and because vehicles rotate independently, the experience varies by seat.

The arrival platform features a large-scale mural by artist Tristan Eaton depicting the street-racing finale from the original 2001 film “The Fast and the Furious.” A second Eaton mural appears in the queue, paying tribute to the franchise as a whole.

Universal Creative designers incorporated the site’s hillside terrain into the coaster’s structure, using the natural landscape as a structural base. The design offers views of the San Fernando Valley, the Universal Studios backlot and the park below.

The queue also includes recreated props from the film series: a car cannon from “Fast & Furious 6,” a roll cage and winch from “Fast Five,” a vault truck also from “Fast Five,” a motorcycle from “F9,” a NOS engine display, a ramp car from “Fast & Furious 6,” a “rolling bomb” from “Fast X” and a rollover stunt rig. Some displays include QR codes linking to behind-the-scenes content through the park’s Backlot Club fan platform, which requires an account login.

Because of the ride’s mechanics, guests must store all belongings, including phones, in complimentary lockers before passing through metal detection to reach the boarding platform.

The coaster joins the park’s existing lineup of attractions, including Super Nintendo World and its Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge ride, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World — The Ride, The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, The Simpsons Ride, Transformers: The Ride-3D, Revenge of the Mummy and the Studio Tour.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas broke ground Thursday on Werewolf Gorge, a roller coaster that will become the world’s longest family launch coaster and the largest single-attraction investment in the park’s history.

The attraction is set to open in 2027 during the park’s 35th anniversary season. When complete, Werewolf Gorge will stretch 4,120 feet, making it not only the longest family launch coaster in the world but also the longest roller coaster ever built at Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

The ride will feature four launches, a midcourse rollback, onboard audio and a story inspired by Texas legends and cryptid folklore, according to park officials.

“This groundbreaking represents much more than the start of construction,” said Robert Bustle, park manager of Six Flags Fiesta Texas. “Werewolf Gorge is the largest single-attraction investment in our park’s history and a significant investment in the future of tourism in Texas. This record-breaking coaster will deliver an experience families can’t find anywhere else while reinforcing Six Flags Fiesta Texas as a destination for visitors from across the United States and beyond.”

Local officials, community leaders, project partners and Six Flags leadership attended a ceremonial groundbreaking near the park’s quarry wall, where hard hats, pickaxes and a countdown marked the start of construction.

Record-breaking design

Park officials said the coaster will include:

• 4,120 feet of track, a world record for family launch coasters

• Four launches, including a swingback launch sequence

• Speeds exceeding 40 mph

• The longest layout in Six Flags Fiesta Texas history

• Onboard audio and immersive storytelling elements

• A ride designed for multiple generations to experience together

The ride’s story follows guests on a sightseeing tour through a Texas quarry that turns into a high-speed chase tied to a centuries-old werewolf legend. Riders will pass through changing terrain and elevation as the story plays out.

Economic impact

Park officials described the project as part of a broader investment in San Antonio’s tourism economy. Millions of visitors travel to the city each year, supporting local hotels, restaurants and retailers, and officials said the new attraction is expected to draw additional visitors and encourage longer stays.

“Projects like Werewolf Gorge help keep San Antonio at the forefront of the tourism industry,” said District 8 Councilwoman Ivalis Gonzalez. “This investment strengthens our city’s position as a premier destination while bringing global attention to our community through a world-record-breaking attraction.”

Looking ahead

Werewolf Gorge will headline the park’s 35th anniversary season in 2027. Six Flags Fiesta Texas is currently offering its Gold Pass at a discounted rate through Sept. 7. The pass includes unlimited park visits, access to seasonal events such as Fright Fest, Tricks and Treats, Oktoberfest and Holiday in the Park, and regional access to Six Flags Over Texas and Schlitterbahn New Braunfels, including its new Tormenta: Rampaging Run and Wasserbahn Racers attractions. Passholders will also get early access to Werewolf Gorge when it opens.

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art and publisher TASCHEN are releasing a book exploring the images that have shaped how people imagine, remember and understand the world.

The project coincides with the museum’s inaugural exhibition, opening Sept. 22, 2026. It will be published in a two-volume edition as well as two smaller formats. The book traces the history of visual storytelling, connecting traditions of image-making across centuries, cultures and mediums.

The book includes texts by George Lucas and Guillermo del Toro and an introduction by Ryan Linkof. It features work by artists including Thomas Hart Benton, Jessie Willcox Smith, Frank Frazetta, Maxfield Parrish, Norman Rockwell and N.C. Wyeth, alongside other artists working in painting, illustration, photography, comics, children’s books and film. The book is organized thematically, drawing connections across artists, eras and forms.

A section on film examines the visual world of “Star Wars,” featuring original production art, concept paintings, costumes and vehicles that show the creative process behind the franchise.

The book will be led by a two-volume Classic edition, which TASCHEN describes as the definitive format. A more compact 45 edition will also be available, along with a Piccolo edition sold exclusively at Lucas Museum retail outlets.

A prolific author, collector, and advocate for visual culture, he has long championed artists, narrative art, and imaginative storytelling.

Ryan Linkof is Senior Curator and Head of Film Programs at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. Previously, he served on the founding curatorial team of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and as a curator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California and is the author and editor of numerous publications on photography, film, and narrative art.

Jessica Hundley is an author, filmmaker, and journalist. She has written for publications including Vogue, Rolling Stone, and The New York Times and has written books on artists including Dennis Hopper, David Lynch, and Gram Parsons. Hundley often explores the counterculture in her work, with a focus on metaphysics, psychedelia, and magic.

Vevo, the world’s leading music video network, has released Becky G’s “Official Live Performance” of “Glitch,” a track from her album “Baraja Bendita,” which is out now. The video is the second installment in an exclusive series of performance videos, following the previously released “2AM.”

“Official Live Performance” is Vevo’s flagship original content franchise. The series creates immersive, custom-built worlds for top artists to showcase their talent through live performance. The productions result from close creative collaboration between Vevo, the artist and their team, and are designed to help artists connect with global fans through exclusive visuals tailored to each album’s vision.

“Each song on Baraja Bendita really evokes a different kind of emotion, and I was able to channel that for each video in this project,” Becky G said. “I enjoyed expressing myself and transforming the space into something new for each song. Advance tickets are available for purchase at Fandango or other ticket outlets ahead of the film’s Sept. 11 release. Limited IMAX Early Access Screenings will also be held in the United States and Canada on Wednesday, Sept. 9, with tickets for that engagement available separately.

Disney+ is presenting a theatrical run of the film, a Hulu original production, which will open in U.S. cinemas and select IMAX theaters Sept. 11. It will later stream exclusively on Disney+ internationally, and on Hulu and Disney+ in the U.S., later this year.

The documentary was produced by Magna Studios and Sony Music Vision. It was created by writer, producer and director Steven Knight, known for “Peaky Blinders” and “A Thousand Blows” and a BAFTA and Academy Award nominee. It was directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, whose previous credits include “Shut Up and Play the Hits” and “Meet Me in the Bathroom.”

The film follows Liam and Noel Gallagher during Oasis Live ‘25, the band’s reunion tour and one of the most closely watched rock comebacks in recent memory. It documents the tour and its impact on fans worldwide, drawing on rehearsal, backstage and onstage footage, along with what producers describe as the first joint interview with the Gallagher brothers in more than 20 years.

Producers said the film includes previously unreleased footage from the band’s sold-out world tour, along with material examining the tour’s cultural significance to audiences across generations.

The film is a Magna Studios production presented by Sony Music Vision in association with Sony Music Entertainment UK. It was produced by Sam Bridger, whose credits include “Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now” and “Meet Me in the Bathroom,” and Guy Heeley, known for “Locke” and “Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.”

Executive producers include Kate Shepherd, Marisa Clifford, Davud Karbassioun, Tom Mackay, Krista Wegener, Thomas Benski, Isabel Davis and Tim O’Shea.

The creative team also includes Academy Award-winning sound mixers James Mather, whose credits include “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Belfast,” and Tarn Willers, known for “The Zone of Interest”; cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos, whose work includes “Belfast” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”; and editors George Cragg and Martina Zamolo.

The Darkest Light is one of those documentaries that will haunt you long after it’s over. It follows the problematic legacy of Rabbi and musician Shlomo Carlebach who rose to fame on a message of love and light, only to be posthumously accused of being a predator and pedophile. Director Simon Mendes and writer Aimee Lyde pull focus on Carlebach‘s daughter Neshama Carlebach who is forced to reconcile the father she knew with the human that he was. We also consider just how personal the process of trauma recovery is. There is no right answer, only a positive direction.

The Doc opens with footage of Carlebach sitting amongst his fans with a guitar. All of them young adults, transfixed by a message of compassion and forgiveness. He urges everyone to remain vigilant of their mistakes noting that the distance between a good man and a bad man is just a day. We learn of his history escaping on one of the last boats out of Germany before Nazi control, only to land in New York where he began his music career. Right away his songs catch on in the Jewish community, crossing orthodoxical barriers to become songs regularly sung during worship. Ironically, Carlebach also championed Women’s rights both in and out of the temple. With every explored we get a growing sense of unease, knowing that we will soon have to explore our own feelings on the matter.

Director Simon Mendes and writer Aimee Lyde craft a thought-provoking exploration of duality in mankind. There is a paradoxical motif throughout. Shlomo Carlebach did an immense amount of good for millions of people, not just Jews, yet he was also a monster. He was a loving father, but we discover he overlooked the abuse of one of his daughters. He pushed for women to have a greater role in the temple, yet he secretly took advantage of them. He had a habit of believing the best version of his fellow man overlooking faults big and small. It’s as if Carlebach was quietly asking for forgiveness by forgiving others freely.

Neshama Carlebach’s journey is also an endlessly fascinating one. As a Jewish woman and survivor of abuse she must decipher a kaleidoscope of emotions and opinions from multiple communities. Her journey is one of conflict and deep emotions. The present must hold the actions of the past accountable while the emotions attached, are sometimes at odds with the facts. The candor that Neshama give to the camera puts us in her shoes, we feel her conflict.

The Darkest Light is one of the most important documentaries of the year. It demands accountability. It looks at the process of healing as a distinctly individual journey. While forgiveness is noble and godly, it isn’t always the answer for some. At one point, one of Shlomo Carlebach‘s victims simply says that the only thing that matters is “now.” Mendes and Lyde leave us with a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions by the end of The Darkest Light then leave us to sit with our thoughts. The answer for healing is just to keep moving forward.

The trailer for A Different Worlds come back was released earlier today.

A Different World returns to Hillman College with a new class stepping onto campus — and beloved faces coming home. At the center is Deborah Wayne (Maleah Joi Moon), Whitley and Dwayne’s lovingly sheltered youngest daughter, a free spirit with a flair for the spotlight and a big heart who’s still figuring out her own path at Hillman.

ANAHEIM - Disney fans got a look at what’s coming to the Disneyland Resort Saturday night during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and streamed live from the Honda Center on Disney+.

The evening kicked off in true NPH fashion with a musical number dedicated to Disney Audio-Animatronics.

There were plenty of surprises along the way, from performances by Sheryl Crow, Beck, Los Lobos and Gloria Gaynor to special appearances by John Stamos, Jack McBrayer, Glenn Close, Tig Notaro, Paige O’Hara and more.

But the real question was: What’s coming to Disneyland Resort? Here’s what we learned from this year’s showcase.

A refreshed version of “Remember… Dreams Come True” nighttime spectacular will return to Disneyland park in February 2027 with projections on Sleeping Beauty Castle, new projections on the Rivers of America, the facade of “it’s a small world,” and Main Street, U.S.A. In time for summer 2027, “Magic Happens” parade will once again fill the streets with inspirational moments of magic from favorite Disney stories.

At Disney California Adventure, an updated version of the original World of Color will once again take guests on a journey through colorful worlds of Walt Disney Animation Studios starting February 2027.

Coco Attraction

Disney shared new details about the upcoming Coco attraction coming to the area near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier. The story will pick up a year after the events from the first film. The queue will begin in Pixar Pier next to the Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind will take guests to a “casa museo” that is dedicated to the music of Héctor Rivera who fans will remember as Miguel’s great-great grandfather. From there, they’ll join Miguel  and travel by boat through his memories of the Land of the Dead. Imagineers are working closely with Pixar to ensure this family-friendly attraction nods to both the original and upcoming film. 

For families, there's another notable detail: the attraction will have no height requirement.

Avengers Infinity Defense

New storyline details were also revealed for the Avengers Infinity Defense along with ride experience and featured heroes coming to California Adventure. New recruits will be welcomed to Avengers Infinity Defence with a pre-mission briefing from Ms. Marvel/Kamala Kahn played by Iman Vellani before your mission.

Along with Vellani, Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) will also reprise their roles in the attraction.

The attraction will use a combination of “massive physical sets blending seamlessly with huge media scenes” placing fans in the middle of the action.

“The fun part about Avengers Infinity Defense is how we get to use every single trick in the Imagineering book – and inventing some new ones – to create this attraction.” You’ll travel to iconic locations like Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City, next to heroes you’ve come to know and love, while (spoiler alert!) coming face to face with King Thanos himself,” according to the Disney Parks Blog.

Stark Flight Lab

Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Anthony Mackie (Captain America) and Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) will all reprise their roles in Stark Flight Lab attraction also coming to California Adventure. Guests will sit in two-person “gyro-kinetic pods” and roll along a track before stopping in front of a giant robot arm that would essentially give the feeling of what it’s like to train like an Avenger. It will make several high-speed maneuvers inspired by Iron Man and more t.hen will be sent to a test station to whirl around a simulated flight. Both attractions are set to open in 2028.

Tommorowland

Last and certainly not least, Disneyland will finally receive a reimagining of Tommorowland. The update is set to honor the legacy of the original land while introducing new experiences and possibilities for the next generation. Imagineers are already dreaming up new attractions and more open spaces. Plans for Tommorowland will aim to restore the spirit of optimism, innovation and possibility that inspired Walt Disney in 1955 to create “a vista into a world of wondrous ideas.” No opening date has been announced.

What stood out:

One thing that stood out from this year’s showcase was how much Disney is balancing the new with the familiar. There are plenty of new attractions on the way, including Coco and Avengers Infinity Defense, but Disney is also bringing back some fan favorites like Magic Happens and Remember… Dreams Come True while giving Tomorrowland a much-needed refresh.

For Disneyland fans, it feels like Disney is trying to give us a little bit of everything: new stories, new attractions and some of the experiences we already know and love.

One thing we didn’t hear about: Avatar

There was one notable omission from the showcase: an update on the Avatar-inspired attraction previously announced for Disneyland Resort at D23 2024.

Disney did not provide any new details about the project during this year’s presentation, so for now, fans will have to wait a little longer to find out what’s next for Avatar at the Disneyland Resort.

Tickets are now on sale at Fandango (www.Fandango.com/AvengersDoomsday) or wherever tickets are sold, expanding beyond INFINITY VISION-certified Premium Large Format theaters to cinemas nationwide. A new poster for “Avengers: Doomsday” was also revealed earlier today.

In “Avengers: Doomsday,” beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.
