Feel Good Friday: Universal Studios Brings Christmas in Spring to Pacoima

Universal Studios Hollywood Discover a Star Foundation came to the M.E.N.D. – Meet Each Need with Dignity in Pacoima last Saturday to bring joy to families and the children through Christmas in Spring. Families has a wonderful day with some amazing food, games, live music and lots of games. What brought cheer to the children’s faces was the special treat of seeing Santa and receiving a special gift. Children will also be treated to giveaways, including a large plush Minion toy and a book of their choice.

Discover a Star Foundation served roughly 600 pounds of chicken, 600 pounds of vegetables, 600 pounds of salad, 4,000 fresh strawberries and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies to the less than fortunate families.

A keepsake family photo memento with the Minions, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy, Dora and Diego from “Dora the Explorer,” Beetlejuice were in attendance to make the magic even more special.

M.E.N.D. serves the San Fernando Valley since the 1970’s in an effort to transform the lives of the neediest residents – poor children and their struggling families. Starting as a small group of volunteers working from a garage, MEND has grown primarily by word-of-mouth into one of the leanest operating non-profit organizations in existence. More than 94% of the support and donations received by MEND, now the largest poverty agency in the Valley, provides emergency food, clothing, medical, vision and dental care, job skills training and job placement assistance, English as a Second Language classes, youth activities, and a Christmas program. In 2013, we served over 38,000 individuals per month.

To find out how more about M.E.N.D. you can find them at mendpoverty.org to help in their efforts. For more information on everything happening at Universal Studios including the opening of Springfield please visit them at universalstudioshollywood.com.
