Film Review: Marvel Iron Man 3

Marvel Iron Man 3 IMAXMarvel Studios releases Iron Man 3 with new director Shane Black, the first film in phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Pictures will finally release this evening the first of the summer blockbuster films, Marvel Iron Man 3. In this third film in the series and the first after the Avengers we see a different more complex story for this film.

In Marvel’s Iron Man 3 Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

The film ultimately is the best out of the two prior Iron Man films and Shane Black really breaths new life to the film taking over from Jon Favreau. Robert Downey Jr. had work with Black before in “Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang” and that working relationship does translate into the screen.

The over two hour film keeps you into the action but pulls you into the story which at the end of the film excited about what the future holds for Stark. Black really does a great job of bridging the events that occurred in the Avengers into the film. This is what helps with the people who may not have seen the first two films but yet saw the Avengers and can pick up the story. I must add it still keeps it mix of comedy and action that has made the prior films so successful.

The performances on screen are very fun by Ben Kingsley, Don Cheadle, and the increase action role of Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Pots. Guy Pearce plays an interesting character and with out giving much away plays a role that will completely change what ever footage you have seen on the trailers so far. The star scenes are between Downey Jr. and Ty Simpkins the young boy Tony Stark meets after the Iron man suits launches him to Tennessee. The interaction is fresh, funny, and really show a different side of the Tony Stark character.

Overall, Marvel’s Iron Man 3 is an amazing film and a great way to start the second phase of Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was fun and exciting from beginning to end and will have audiences wanting to go see it for a second or even third time. As with all the Marvel films before Avengers stay till the end of the credits to see the extra scene. At the end of that footage it goes to black and leaves you with something different saying, “Tony Stark Will Return.”

Iron Man 3 – A+
