First Half Update: Chivas USA and Sporting KC Play To A First Half Tie

The Chivas return home to the Home Depot Center after gaining their first win of the season against Real Salt Lake last week, 1 to 0. Sporting Kansas City comes into today game with an undefeated record of 3-0-0 with 9 points leading the Eastern Conference and Chivas with a 1 – 2 – 0 and 3 points for the fourth match of 2012.

The first half begins with control of the ball to Chivas USA. The team starts out playing strong defense looking for position down the field but controlling fast is Sporting KC until finally in the 3:30 mark Chivas is able to bring possession onto the South side of the pitch. The first shot of the match is taken by Sporting KC’s Seth Sinovic but Chivas goalie Dan Kennedy jumps high to block the impending goal. In 14:11 mark of the match Chivas Casey Townsend receives a pass that almost leads to an opportunity at the net but is stopped by goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen of Sporting KC within a inch from getting the ball.

At 18:50 a collision between Chance Myers and Chivas USA Ryan Smith occurred leaving Smith to leave the game for a second but is able to continue play helping Chivas continue the tough defense being played. In the 31 minute a header by Aurelien Collin just misses and is frustrated by the non-call close to the box. In the game so far the defense struggle has started to get to the KC team as they begin making mistakes at the ball. Sporting KC Sinovic will receive a yellow card for stopping the forward play but Chivas does not take advantage losing at the kick attempt.

In the 45 minute the officials add a minute of stoppage time that does build an opening for any team as the strong defensive play does not allow a scoring opportunity in the first half. The score remains tied in the end of the first half.
