We have our first look at the action-thriller “Monkey Man”. This action-thriller is written, directed, and starring Oscar nominee Dev Patel. The film follows the quest for one man’s quest for vengeance against corrupt leaders that killed his mom. Now those same people are systematically victimizing the poor.

Universal Pictures’ “Monkey Man” will be only in theaters April 5. You can check out the trailer above!

Patel has a great resume of films including, “Slumdog Millionaire”, “Lion”, and “The Green Knight”. This film looks fantastic and it also features Jordan Peele as a producer. The tone looks great and I look forward to seeing the action sequences, hopefully we can continue to see more action-thrillers of this caliber and highlight new actors and stunt coordinators.

Here is the information for “Monkey Man” provided by Universal Pictures

Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash.

After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.

Packed with thrilling and spectacular fight and chase scenes, this film is directed by Dev Patel from his original story and his screenplay with Paul Angunawela and John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World).

The cast joining Patel on “Monkey Man” includes Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher, and Makarand Deshpande.
