Cal State Fullerton baseball falls in two of three games in their series against the University of Houston over the weekend, falling to 1-6 on the season.
In the series opener on Friday, the Titan’s won their first game of the season 2-1. The victory came in a 15 inning thriller after Fullerton was unable to hold on to their one run lead in the ninth. It was Jake Pavletich who scored off of a walk-off wild pitch of all things, to end the game and secure their first win. Ironically enough, the Titan’s first run of the game was also scored off a wild pitch.
In the second game of the series on Saturday, the tables turned with an increase in scoring from the start. Fullerton allowed five runs in the first two innings alone, taking them to the bottom of the second down 0-5. The scoring did not end there either, as Houston scored four more runs in the game. The nine runs scored for the Cougars was too much for Fullerton to come back from. The Titan’s lose the second game 4-9 and looked to regain the lead in the series on Sunday.
The final game of the series featured more of the same for the Titans, as they allowed 10 runs in the game. It was quiet to start, as the first run was not scored until the fourth inning of the game. In the fifth inning, it was five runs for the Cougars that put the game out of reach for Fullerton. They did manage to score five runs of their own, but were unable to stop the bleeding, as Houston won the game 10-5.
The University of Houston wins the series against Cal State Fullerton two games to one.
