Pushing aside stereotypes of what a typical boyband should be, AQUIHAYAQUIHAY band members Jay-lee, Neqer, Phynx, Zizzy and Nehly chose to be the first anti-boyband.

Although the band was created in 2016, it was not until April that their name was given, after the last member made it official. Representing Guadalajara and Monterrey, this band that was originally just a group of friends, believes that no stereotype should identify who they are.

“Just like there are a lot of boybands, hopefully more anti-boybands are born.” – Zizzy

These young artists – trained by the streets and real-life experiences – sing, write, produce, direct, compose, and craft their own brand. They have redefined the concept of “Boy Bands” in Mexico and in the US, and are the forerunners of the Mexican Pop (M-Pop) movement.

Together, they create a mix of R&B, Hip-Hop and Latin traditional genres. Growing up in the streets and using real-life experiences has led them to not only create their own music, but to sing, direct, compose and making it their own. Dropping two EP’s today; Happy & Sad which include collaborations with Lil Benjas, Paula Cendejas and more.

Being AQUIHAYAQUIHAY is believing in yourself, it’s overcoming stigmas, it’s dismissing clichés that others cast upon you, it’s leaving everything behind to become who you really are, it’s bonding with your kind and never feeling the need to prove anything to anyone.

MUSE TV’s Tatis Iolani were honored to have AQUIHAYAQUIHAY as special guests to discuss more about how they got to become the first but not the only band to sign under Steve Aoki’s Latin Music Label: Dim Mak En Fuego. Watch the interview below:
