Gibson BrandsNASHVILLE, TN — Gibson Brands is bringing music back to the historic Tower Records Sunset Strip location on January 1, 2015, it was announced today by Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Brands.  Gibson Brands will roll out a lengthy renovation process to update the space while still paying tribute to the legendary music store that was the center of the Los Angeles music scene for decades. Gibson has signed a 15-year lease for the rectangular one-story building.

“Gibson Brands and Tower Records have both always been about the music,” commented Juszkiewicz.  “We want to reinvent this site to be the international phenomenon that its legacy deserves. Gibson Brands is dedicated to innovation, prestige and improving the quality of life and music for its customers. Our goal is to provide the most exceptional customer audio products and experiences in the world.”

The Tower Records retail music chain was started in 1960 in Sacramento. Within a decade, it turned into a retail powerhouse with locations across the west coast.  These locations included the first building specifically built on a prime piece of real estate at 8801 Sunset Blvd in the middle of the Sunset Strip. Constructed in 1971, the Tower Records Sunset Blvd building was a haven for the likes of John Lennon, Elton John, Dave Grohl, Chuck D, Adam Levine, Bruce Springsteen and many others who poured through the stacks of vinyl and boxes of CDs.  It was also the center of the Los Angeles music scene, playing host to regular concerts from high profile artists. By the 1990s, Tower Records had expanded worldwide with 213 stores, with record sales in 1999 of  $1 billion.  The legendary chain closed its doors in the U.S. in 2006.
