Google Announces New Streaming Device, Chromecast

Google is stepping up the game with their Chromecast. This little HDMI dongle is very useful for those that don’t have a web-enabled television. It is a simple plug and play device; Plug in the Chromecast dongle into your HDMI port, open up a supported application, and stream over WiFi (same WiFi network required). The only downside to this is that it does not include support to stream media files from your device that are outside of the supported app list and it needs to be powered via USB still.

It is a cool device that has the potential to expand or be expanded (techie gurus and rooters I’m looking at you). This is not a bad investment considering that if you buy it right now you receive 3 months of Netflix for free ($24 USD Value). Looks like that Google didn’t want Samsung AllShare devices to have all the fun
