Today marks the 2 year anniversary of the insanely absorbing documentary Haunters: The Art of the Scare. Jon Schnitzer’s documentary takes a fascinating look at the people behind both traditional and extreme haunts. Haunters interviews some of the biggest names in horror including, John Murdy, Creative Director of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, and Jason Blum, founder of Blumhouse Productions, as well as some of the most controversial including, Russ McKamey of McKamey Manor. McKamey Manor, known for being the most extreme haunt, was not only notorious for waterboarding, shaving heads and dragging people, but for not having a “safe word.” Post Haunters a “safe word” has been put into place in case you decide that voluntary torture is not your cup of tea.
The film is a gripping investigation on the psychology of fear and why some people crave it to an extreme length. When Haunters was initially released, it put a light on these extreme haunts that before were more of a hidden sub-culture. It is fascinating, disturbing, and yet charming, all at once. This October marks the last haunt season that Haunters will be streaming on Netflix.

Also featuring John Murdy (Universal Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights), Jon Braver (Delusion), Josh Randall (Blackout), Eric Lowther (Haunted Overload), Bruce Stanton (Reign of Terror), Sylvia & Jen Soska (American Mary & GSN’s HELLEVATOR), Jessica Cameron (Truth or Dare) and many more talented artists.
