HOLLYWOOD JOINS EVERYTOWN ON OSCAR NIGHT

This year, award season has been all about unity and solidarity. We saw it at the Golden Globes, with stars wearing black attire and wearing a “Times Up” pin; to show support for victims of sexual harassment and work place inequality.

At tonight’s ceremony, the stars will be wearing orange USA flag pins, to support Everytown for Gun Safety. Their mission is to bring awareness to gun safety and encourage the public to speak to their representatives about gun regulation laws. Stars such as Emma Stone and Juilianne Moore, have appeared in Everytown PSA’s and others such as Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney, have each made donations to “March for Our Lives.” A protest organized by the surviving students of the Florida Parkland school shooting.

Everytown is a movement of Americans working together to end gun violence and build safer communities. Gun violence touches every town in America. For too long, change has been thwarted by the Washington gun lobby and by leaders who refuse to take common-sense steps that will save lives. But something is changing. More than 4 million mayors, moms, cops, teachers, survivors, gun owners, and everyday Americans have come together to make their own communities safer. Together, we are fighting for the changes that we know will save lives. Everytown starts with you, and it starts in your town.”- Everytown.

Following the Parkland school shooting, the organization came up with a five-point plan that they believe will do what our lawmakers have failed to do, keep us safe. As written on their site; “We’ve had enough. Thoughts and prayers are not enough to honor the victims of gun violence. What we need now is ACTION. Lawmakers have had enough time to come around to common sense, and we’re done waiting. We must now elect leaders who will finally act to save lives from gun violence. It’s time to throw them out. Take action”
