Kicking off their first-ever solo U.S. tour, the Pasadena Civic Auditorium is the first stop for the award-winning girl group. “We are delighted to welcome Red Velvet to Pasadena next year, and with the first show selling out, we’re thrilled they added a second show,” said Jeanne O’Grady Goldschmidt, executive director of the Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The venue has been the first for many things, and the ticket sales speaks volumes to the civic auditorium’s place as an entertainment landmark.”
The Pasadena Civic Auditorium has welcomed millions of patrons across Southern California. Inspired by Mediterranean Revival architecture, the 3,000 seat theatre has hosted countless concerts and plays, including but not limited to the Daytime Emmy Awards, NAACP Image Awards and in 1983, Motown 25 where Michael Jackson debuted the Moonwalk. The venue has also been used for film and television shows such as “Alias,” “American Idol,” “America’s Got Talent,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Scandal” and “NCIS.”
Red Velvet, consisting of members Irene (leader), Seulgi, Wendy, Joy, and Yeri, debuted in August 2014 with “Happiness.” The album became the best-selling album by a girl group in South Korea for the first half of 2015. Their first full-length album, The Red, was released in September 2015, which included the popular lead single “Dumb Dumb.” The album debuted at number one on Billboard’s World Albums Chart as well as on various Korean music charts. In September 2016, Red Velvet released their third mini-album Russian Roulette, topping Korean music charts, earning them their first music show win, and peaking at number two on Billboard’s World Digital Songs Chart. In 2017, the releases of their fourth mini-album Rookie in February, their summer mini-album The Red Summer in July, and their second full album Perfect Velvet in November all achieved first place on Billboard’s World Albums Chart and earned Red Velvet “top girl group” status in South Korea. Their Japanese debut album #Cookie Jar was released on July 4, 2018, which debuted at the 3rd spot on Oricon Weekly Albums and sold more than 26,000 copies in the first week of its release. Their second summer mini-album Summer Magic, which was released this past August, topped South Korean music charts, earned the group first place on music shows, and debuted at number three on Billboard’s World Albums Chart.
