In all honesty, no one really likes change, but the backlash for Snapchat’s new redesigned user interface is nothing like we’ve seen. Over the weekend Snapchat rolled out a new update that changes the user interface and most are complaining about navigating the new interface and not being able to find some of the app’s most beloved functions.
The backlash has gotten so bad that a recent LikeFolio study found that, almost 80% of all tweets about Snapchat are now negative, with the majority of the tweets focusing on the new interface. The reaction to the redesign has overwhelmingly been negative with almost a million people signing a petition asking Snapchat to give users back the old version.
The biggest change for the app is that the stories tab has been replaced with the discover tab, which is only featured and sponsored content. Now, stories only can be found on your friend’s tab, which is no longer ordered chronologically. Instead of listing the stories in the order in which they will expire, Snapchat now has an algorithm that shows you stories it thinks you will want to watch.
According to the LikeFolio study, the app’s users are vowing on social media to flock to Instagram to tell their stories. The study found a surge in users tweeting about switching to Instagram, but now, there is no way to tell if this is actually happening as Instagram already has such a large user base with Instagram Stories already built into the app. It is still to be seen if all this talk will turn into action as Snapchat downloads have yet to decrease and Instagram downloads to increase. Guess we will just have to wait and see.
