Earlier this week J Balvin won for the second year in a row the VMA for Best Latin, alongside Rosalia. For their chart-topping summer track, “Con Altura.”
The two took the stage together to accept the Moon Person, where Rosalia gave a heartfelt thank you to the millions of people who not only voted for the them but have also been welcoming to the representation of Latin culture and its music.
“Wow. I wasn’t expecting this, honestly,” a stunned Rosalía said. “Thank you, because it’s such an incredible honor. I come from Barcelona. I’m so happy to be here representing where I come from and representing my culture and thank you for allowing me to perform tonight singing in Spanish.”
Earlier that night, Rosalia got the honor of being the first female Latin artist to perform in Spanish at the VMA stage. Performing the recently released track “Tu x Mi, Yo x Ti,” alongside Puerto Rican star Ozuna. A first for the two, since neither have had yet to perform the song together, live. Then finishing up her time, with her critically acclaimed track “Aute Cuture.”
While the honor of being the first Male Latin artist to ever perform in Spanish on the VMA stage, was bestowed last year to his good friend Maluma. J Balvin took the stage this year for his first-ever VMA performance and brought along with him the full-might of “Latino Gang.”
Alongside Bad Bunny and accompanied by technicolor aesthetics and inflatable stuffed animals, bringing to light the pop absurdism of David Bryne. The two chart-toppers performed “Que Pretenders” from their collaboration album “Oasis.”
Before taking the stage, Balvin told MTV News, that this is a beautiful moment for Latin culture. “To be singing and performing in Spanish… As long as you feel the vibe, we good!”
Earlier last week, while on break from their respective European tour dates. Bad Bunny and J Balvin released the third video from the album “Oasis.” Directed by Collin Tilley, it featured the two in dark looks that contrasted the distinctive landscape of Mykonos, Greece.
Paying homage to Donnie Dark and WWE wrestle Sting. “Cuidado Por Ahi” (Be Careful Out There) showcases the two in a goth like – street punk looks, bringing what looks like a classic Halloween horror film to the picturesque streets of Greece. In just four days, the video has already reached over 4 million views.
Now, J Balvin is back in the U.S to kick of his HIGHLY anticipated North American Tour, “ARCOIRIS (‘Rainbow’)”. Starting this Friday in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the Coliseo De Puerto Rico venue.
This tour has been highly anticipated. Not just following the success of last year’s tour “VIBRAS” but also following the success of his performance at music festivals across the world; such as Coachella and Lollapalooza.
This past summer has seen Blavin produce hit after, like he was Midas with the golden touch. His track with Rosalia has not only been a radio favorite, but to this day remains one of the most watched videos on YouTube. The video for his single “Loco Contigo” with DJ Snake reached 8 million views after just four days.
Let us not forget his most recent album “Oasis” with Bad Bunny. The two produced an album so eloquently choreographed with the order of the songs, it’s a lyrical book. Within its debut week, the album set new records and was called as a blockbuster collaboration; and the two artist hailed as “ambassadors of a new wave.”
