Jets running back Joe McKnight murdered in road rage incident

New Orleans— Law enforcement have detained Ronald Gasser, 54, believed to be the shooter in the murder of Jets star, Joe McKnight on Thursday afternoon, reported by TMZ Sports.

The Ex-NFL running back, 28, was shot twice in spark of road rage, even though McKnight was seen to be apologizing to the shooter after the traffic incident occurred, a witness said to NOLA.Com.

Family members identified McKnight at the scene after emergency responders failed to administered CPR. He did not have a gun at the time of the incident, according to police.

“Joe McKnight was a loving father and a genuine, kind-hearted person. It is sad when life is taken in what appears to be such a senseless act of violence. Joe you will be missed,” said the Jets in statement with TMZ Sports.

Considered as the best running back in the country while in high school, McKnight continued to play college football at USC, eventually drafted by the New York Jets in 2010.

Currently, McKnight was playing for Canadian Football League with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

“We are saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Joe McKnight,” said Roughriders president and CEO Craig Reynolds, “Losing a member of our Rider family this way is an unthinkable occurrence. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joe’s family, teammates and coaches.”
