John Legend and Ariana Grande to duet in live action rendition of “Beauty and the Beast”

The title track from Disney’s smash animated film will soon be revamped with a performance by John Legend and Ariana Grande in the upcoming live-action adaption soundtrack “Beauty and the Beast,” coming to theaters March 17.

Originally sung by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson, Grande and Legend both were brought on by Disney president of Music and Soundtracks Mitchell Leib to duet for the rendition.

“Stepping into the shoes of an Oscar and Grammy Award-winning classic is not small potatoes. But with today’s two greatest plutonium singers – John Legend and Ariana Grande – we are bringing the song back with a new school-old school fresh treatment that shows the soulfulness and power of what a great melody and lyric can inspire,” said producer of revised track, Ron Fair.

Leib said he also purposefully recruited the Grammy winning producer, arranger, recording engineer and musical director Fair for the project, after successfully working with Fair on the “Pretty Woman” soundtrack.

“Ron was the first and only choice to make this particular record. No one is a better vocal producer and he also has a great understanding of the filmmaking dynamic,” said Leib.

“Beauty and the Beast” was composed by eight time Oscar recipient Alan Menken with lyrics by Oscar winner Howard Ashman that received an Academy Award®, Golden Globe® and Grammy Award in 1991.  The film will feature fresh recordings of the original score, including three new songs written by Menken and three time Oscar winner lyricist Tim Rice.

The “Beauty and the Beast” soundtrack will be released by Disney Records on March 10.  Pre-orders of the motion picture soundtrack are available through here.
