Joseph Diaz Jr. from Southern California Wins Opening Bout In London Olympics

Joseph Diaz Jr - US Bantam BoxerJoseph Diaz Jr. from El Monte, CA won his opening bout of the 2012 Men’s Boxing  Bantam Olympic Tournament defeating Ukrainian Pavlo Ishchenko in a three round bout, 19 – 9 on points.

Diaz lead the scores in all three rounds scoring 4 to 3 in the first. 5 to 3 in the second and 10 to 3 in the third and final round. Diaz will next face Cuba’s Lazaro Alvarez Estrada who won the World Championship in the Bantam division in 2011. The fight will be held on August 1 at 5:30am PST.

In other US boxing action Terrell Gausha lost his Men’s Middle bout against Andranik Hakobyan of Arminia in the third round when the referee stopped the bout. The final scores of the  bout was 4 to 3 in the first round and 4 to 4 on the second round. Gausha another chance when he faces India’s Vijender on August 2 at 1:30pm.
