Fox revealed this past Wednesday that the 21-year-old actress will play in its upcoming musical event, Grease: Live. Grease Live will be Fox’s first TV musical.
The role of Marty can be described as the popular high school senior who tries to act sophisticated, romances older men, and has long-distance relationships with military officers. Dinah Manoff originally played this role in the 1978 Grease movie.
After making her breakout role in Akeelah and the Bee, Palmer went on to star in True Jackson, VP cable series, and many other successful productions.
This, however, wouldn’t be her first musical, as she was also seen in Joyful Noise, CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, and in 2014 Cinderella (Broadway); thus, making her the first African-American and youngest actress to star in such staging. We will also see Palmer in Ryan Murphy’s, Glee and American Horror Story creator, Scream Queens this fall.
So far, alongside Palmer in this musical are Vanessa Hudgens as Betty Rizzo and Julianne Hugh as Sandy Olsson.
Hough and Hudgens were announced as Sandy and Rizzo prior to Palmer’s casting. To complete the Pink Ladies, we will need to figure out who will play Frenchy and Jan.
Palmer shared this exciting news with her followers via Twitter on Wednesday, May 28.
Grease: Live is written by Robert Cary and Jonathan Tolins and produced by Fox and Paramount Television. It is set to air live Jan. 31, 2016 at 7 p.m. ET.
