Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant (41) and his daughter Gianna (13) including 7 additional passenger passed away in Calabasas helicopter crash Sunday morning. The Los Angeles Times confirmed the helicopter crash at 10am and created a small brush fire.

The helicopter was similar to one that he would frequently use when traveling from his home in Orange County to Staples Center for game day.

The report was first released by TMZ announced that Vanessa Bryant was not on board the crash.

It was just last night that Lebron James had just passed Bryant to become third in all-time scoring and tweeted about his accomplishment yesterday.

Bryant is known as one of the NBA‘s all-time greats. The former Los Angeles Laker was named an NBA All-Star 18 times, and he was a member of five championship teams. He also had two separate numbers (8, 24) retired by the Lakers following his retirement. He is fourth on the NBA’s All-Time scoring list.

He was born on August 23, 1978 the son of former NBA player Joe Bryant. He played his high school basketball career at Lower Merion High School in Pennsylvania, where he was recognized as the top high school basketball player in the country.

Upon graduation, he declared for the 1996 NBA draft and was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 13th overall pick; the Hornets then traded him to the Lakers.

In addition to his accomplishments he won an Academy Award for the short film, Dear Basketball which was a touching tribute to the game he loved.

Kobe and Gianna Bryant is survived by his wife/mother, Vanessa and three daughters/sisters, Natalia, Bianca, and Capri who was just born last year.
