Dodger Stadium will host the first outdoor hockey game between the Ducks and Kings in California on Jan. 25, 2014
On January 25, 2014 at 7pm PT the Anaheim Ducks will travel north to Los Angeles to play the Los Angeles Kings but not at Staples Center but at Chavez Ravine. Â The National Hockey League made it official today that for the first time in California and the first time in NHL history an outdoor game will be played west of the Mississippi at Dodger Stadium.
This will be one of the games in the 2014 NHL Stadium Series presented by Coors Light.Â â€œWith their meeting in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series, the Ducks and the Kings will write the next chapter in the exciting story of NHL hockey in Southern California,â€ Commissioner Gary Bettman said. â€œAt a venue that represents so much glorious sports history, this match-up of Stanley Cup champions will raise our outdoor initiatives to bold new heights. We know the game will be a treat for our fans, and we thank the Ducks, the Kings, Coors Light, Dodger Stadium and the Los Angeles Dodgers for bringing it to life.â€
Dodger Stadium is the third oldest stadium in Major League Baseball behind Wrigley Field and Fenway Park in Boston which have both held outdoor hockey games. Dodgers Stadium has been host to almost 147 million fans since it opened in 1962. Has featured an Major League Baseball All-Star Game, 8 World Series, The Beatles, and many many more events.

The Los Angeles Kings are not new to playing outdoor games since they played the first ever outdoor game in 1991 at Caesar’s Palace parking lot in Las Vegas against the New York Rangers. The game was played in 85 degree weather.
The NHL recently announced that the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter ClassicÂ® is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 1, when the Detroit Red Wings will play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium. In addition, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Pittsburgh Penguins will participate in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Seriesâ„¢ on March 1, when they face off at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.
