It took 45 years but the Los Angeles Kings have finally won their first Stanley Cup
It was coming down to a part fear and part excitement level prior to the game at Staples Center this afternoon. The Los Angeles Kings started the Stanley Cup playoffs winning the first three games. It looked like it was going to be a sweep until the New Jersey Devils got some momentum and won game 4 and 5.
When the puck dropped on game 6 you felt a different game was coming and it did. When a 5 minute major penalty on New Jersey Devils Steve Bernier. The Kings would score three goals during this power play. Goals were scored by Dustin Brown, Jeff Carter and Trevor Lewis to lead in the first 3 to 0 to end the first period.
In the second period the Kings would continue the strong start until 1:30 into the second Jeff Carter gets his second goal to make it a 4 to 0 game. The Kings did allow one goal in the second to New Jersey Adam Henrique who was able to get a wrester passed Jonathan Quick to make it 4 to 1. The second period will end at 4 to 1.
Staples Center start was quite at the start of the third but as time started counting down the crowd started getting louder and louder. Five minutes left in the the fans started feeling the cup is near when with an empty net goal by Trevor Lewis to close the door on Game 6. Then a couple seconds after the goal to make it 5 to 1 Matt Greene scores a goal Â to make it 6 to1 and puts the period on the game. Â The final seconds of the game and the Staples Center crowd explodes in joy and tears as the fans who have seen the good times and the bad are able to final say we are Stanley Cup Champions. The first 8th seed to ever win the Stanley Cup.
