The decision by the U.S. Olympic Committee to choose runner up Los Angeles to replace Boston as the country’s bid was revealed Tuesday.
Boston’s local support plummeted after the projected costs for the Games was announced.
According to the Los Angeles Times, hosting the 2024 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles will cost upwards of $6 billion.
Part of the cost includes an estimated $1 billion village, possibly more expensive, for the Olympians, according to the Los Angeles Times.
If the games were to come to Los Angeles, some proposed venues to be used are: the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Galen Center, Staples Center, Pauley Pavilion, and Santa Monica Beach.
Staples Center will be home to gymnastics and basketball, while the triathlon, open-water swimming and volleyball will take place in Santa Monica.
It will be tough competition for Los Angeles. being stacked against Rome, Paris, Budapest and Hamburg.
But what Los Angeles. has on it’s side is experience, having hosted the Summer Games in 1932 and 1984.
Taking that into account, the world will have to wait for the International Olympic Committee to vote in the summer of 2017.
