Los Angeles Sparks: Spark Clinch Playoff Spot in 24-Point Victory Over San Antonio

Los Angeles SparksThe Los Angeles Sparks get their 8th straight win beating San Antonio, 101-77 taking second place in the West and clinching a playoff spot.

Kristi Toliver matched career highs in scoring with 29 points and six 3-pointers in the victory. Toliver went 10-14 from the field with 6-7 from the 3-point line. “We were excited to play them and continue to protect our home court,” said Toliver. “We welcome pressure”

Alana Beard would add 21 points with 3 steals which helped in ending the 12-game winning streak for San Antonio. “Beard is getting back to her old form and a great catalyst on the defensive end,” said Los Angeles Sparks Head Coach Carol Ross. Ross would continue, “We have to be a team that can take care of business in October. We got to be better every time we step on the floor.”

The Sparks throughout the game took advantage of the San Antonio mistakes early turning turnovers into easy baskets. San Antonio would end the game with 14 turnovers.   San Antonio was just not able to figure out the Sparks impressive defense. The bright spot for San Antonio was Danielle Robinson who finished the contest with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assist in 24:53 on the court.

The win bring the Sparks record to 18-6 in the season only a game back from the league leading Minnesota Lynx. The Sparks will return to Staples Center to end the three game home stand against the New York Liberty on Saturday, August 25 at 7:30pm.
