Lucasfilm Blows Roof Off Hall H At San Diego Comic-Con For Star Wars

Hey Star Wars fans, boy do I have a force to be reckoned with!

Light sabers were all out today in San Diego, California as the 2015 Star Wars Comic Con took place.

Your favorite writers, producers, actors, and actresses were in attendance to discuss their experiences and juicy details of what to expect when Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters this December.

The moderator for today’s event was Chris Hardwick. First he introduced JJ Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy, and Lawrence Kasdan to the panel. They collectively wanted to thank everyone who has been a fan of this film since the beginning…1976…when it all began.

As you would imagine there was a lot of work that went into the making of this film. Abrams said they had to figure out “what feels right, what delights us.” Actors John Boyega and Daisy Ridley joked about how hard it was running through 110° weather and the fight training they had to master.

Neil Scanlon’s studio is who everyone will need to thank for the amazing visual effects. The realistic creature affects is what Abrams thinks helped the entire process “look and feel like it was on the screen.”

Are you ready for the Darkside? Comic-con hinted that Gwendolyn Christie, Adam Driver, Domhall Gleeson will be playing characters that may be evil characters. Adam Driver says there were conversations about being bad or right “a character may do bad things, but if they think they’re morally right that’s almost even more evil.”
On a sidenote this years Oscars brought a lot of controversy regarding diversity in film. This concern was brought up by a fan today at comic-con. Abrams said that they didn’t write any character to be a specific color. However, he does say that “diversity is incredibly important and that improving it is always a consideration.” On a positive note he did say that female characters will be shown a lot more in Star Wars. Actress Gwendolyn Christie said she was glad that her character wasn’t judged by her appearance. Speaking of women making appearances, Carrie Fisher was in attendance. You might recall her role as Princess Leia in the earlier Star Wars films.

Amongst the veterans are also Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill. Both actors reminisced on how great it feels to be back on set. They also mentioned how grateful they are for the fans that are still sticking by Star Wars. Even to this day they are still amazed at the love and support they get from fans around the world. Hamill said “its very moving for me it’s almost like an out of body experience.”

The attendees at the event were treated with a special surprise…a Star Wars concert that took place after the panel concluded. Be sure to look out for Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer to release this fall.
