Singer, dancer, actress and now producer, Maite Perroni is making her grand entrance to Hollywood with the success of the Netflix’s original series Dark Desire (Oscuro Deseo). The Latin American actress plays the lead role of Alma Solares in the acclaimed thriller that has made the “Top 10” list in over 180 countries including the United States.

While her participation with Netflix has increased her exposure to a whole new audience. Perroni, has for many years been a household name and entertainment icon since her early years on Televisa’s Rebelde as Guadalupe “Lupita” Fernández. As part of the series storyline “Lupita” along with other classmates joined together to form a music group.

This story plot transcended into real life and Perroni rose to fame as part of Latin Grammy-nominated Mexican pop group RBD. As a lead singer she helped carry the group to worldwide recognition, critical acclaim and performed in sold out venues such as Estadio Maracaná in Brazil, Madison Square Garden in New York, The L.A. Coliseum, American Airlines Arena in Miami, Estadio Vicente Calderón in Spain, Auditorio Nacional and Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City, among others.

Her time with the RBD allowed for the opportunity to continue with a musical career. In 2008 after four years together,the group decided to part ways. Perroni, having demonstrated to be a gifted singer, would go on to record numerous singles that would be featured exclusively in many of the telenovelas she was working on. Then in 2012, Perroni released her first solo album “Eclipse de Luna,” which debuted at #9 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums.

Since her time on Rebelde, Perroni has become a household name with leading roles in Telenovelas such as; Cuidado Con El Angle and Triunfo Del Amor, which she starred along side fellow actor William Levy. As well as La Gata, Antes Muerta Que Lichita and Papa a Toda Madre to name a few.

Most recently she has taken on the protagonist role in Dark Desire as Alma Solares, an attorney and college professor, who, feeling betrayed by her husband, ‘Leonardo Solares’ (Jorge Poza) and ill advised by her best friend ‘Brenda’ (María Fernanda Yepes) has a one night stand with ‘Darío Guerra’ (Alejandro Speitzer), a much younger man. Her temporary lapse of judgement paves the way to a dangerous obsession that turns her life into a living hell that leads to an unexpected and tragic consequences.

The show has been received with such great reviews that Netflix has decided to renew the series for a second season, to be premiered in 2021. Perroni also has two other series on different streaming platforms – Herederos por Accidente on Claro Video and El Juego de las Llaves (Game of Keys) on PANTAYA in the U.S. and available through Amazon Prime Video in Latin America.

This new opportunity of working on shorter and edgier original series, that can be more shown on streaming platforms. Have allowed for Maite to shift her focus to more challenging roles and grow as an artist, leaving behind the naive and romantic characters that have shaped her image.

Although she juggles a busy schedule, Perroni still manages to find time to interact with her fans across her social media accounts and speak upon issues that matter most to her such as female empowerment and advocating for LGBTQ+ rights.
