The line-up of screenings for the 3rd Â Annual Mammoth Lakes Film Festival has been announced and will be taking place in the beautiful mountain settings of Mammoth, California. The line-up includes premieres, classic films, and festival favorites. The five-day festival will begin on Wednesday, May 24th and will conclude May 28, 2017.Â The festival will kick off with an Opening Night Screening of Cheech and Chongâ€™s much-loved first feature Up in Smoke. Tommy Chong who is not only one of the stars in the film, but an uncredited co-director as well, will be present for Q&A after the screening.
Saturday evening will feature the Sierra Spirit Award Centerpiece Gala Award & Screening of Â Baby It’s You:Â A Night with John SaylesÂ starring Rosanna Arquette and Vincent Spano. Followed by his 1983 film, Sayles will present the the Â Sierra Spirit Award.
In addition to the two classic films of Sayles and Chong, 18 other features will be screened over the five-day festival. Some films in competition include Eight ( U.S. premiere), Forever B (World premiere), The Islands and the Whales, Olancho, Rat Film, Strad Style, Whats Lies Upstream. Spotlight Screening Documentaries not in competition will include The Challenge, Dina, and Machines. Â Some feature films in competition include Neighborhood Food Drive, Space Detective, and Withdraws. Â Foreign films include Cold Breath, The Fixer, and The UnwashedÂ (U.S. Premiere).
Aside from Opening Night and theÂ Sierra Spirit Award, there will be a Filmmaker Bash on Saturday evening at Rafters featuring the band Jelly Bread and the Award Ceremony on Sunday, May 27th at the Sierra Events Center.
VIP passes are now available and they’re the only way to guarantee admission to the Wednesday evening Opening Night Screening of Up In Smoke. Individual ticket sales for the Mammoth Film Festival go on sale May 10th as well as individual party/event tickets.
