Marvel’s Daredevil Season 2 Review

The wait is officially over for the return of Marvel’s Daredevil. After almost a year, season two is finally on Netflix, and once you start watching it you won’t want to stop.

Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) are all back and ready to fight the injustices of the legal system. However, what they don’t yet know is just how big this fight will be.

Last season, the three succeeded in taking down Hell’s Kitchen’s most powerful crime lord, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), but this season they’re up against even more powerful enemies. The team takes on one of their toughest cases yet, all while trying to avoid having their law firm’s reputation destroyed by District Attorney Reyes, who has a secret that plays a role in one of the season’s biggest conflicts.

Not only do we see appearances by some familiar faces like Matt’s mentor Stick (Scott Glenn), Sergeant Brett Mahoney (Royce Johnson), and one character who we all presume to be dead, this season introduces two new main characters: Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung) and Frank Castle, the Punisher (Jon Bernthal).

Marvel superfans know exactly who we’re talking about, and those who are not probably don’t. But that’s not a problem. Daredevil isn’t just for Marvel fans- that’s what’s so great about it. The show is so detailed with visuals and dialogue that those who do not know the original Daredevil story are still able to understand and get hooked.

This season is absolutely as action-packed as the first, if not more so, but it definitely has more gore. Viewers get up close and personal with gunshot wounds, crushed skulls and hacked off limbs each time Daredevil, Elektra, or the Punisher are involved in a fight- and fight scenes are definitely not lacking. The camera work and the character’s movements are so aesthetically pleasing and mesmerizing, you won’t want to take your eyes off the screen for fear of missing anything crucial to the storyline.

In typical Marvel and Netflix fashion, the season ends on a huge cliffhanger, which leaves us viewers dying for answers and anticipating season three. But when will season three be released?  Just like any Netflix series, they’re going to leave us hanging for a bit. Netflix and Marvel haven’t made any official statements about if the series will continue, but with the way things ended this season, the third season will more than likely come out in spring 2017.

Whether you’re a Marvel fan or not you are sure to enjoy the action, suspense, and comedic relief of this vigilante’s story. So if you haven’t already done so, grab a blanket and get comfy because season two of Daredevil is definitely worthy of a binge.
