NHL Western Conference Finals: 2nd Period Ends With Kings And Coyotes Tied At 2

The second period begins at 6:07pm with puck control going to the Kings with Coyotes still on the Power Play. The Kings after a minute of play are able to clear the puck  but Coyotes take advantage of the few seconds left on power play but unable to take advantage.

Dustin Brown takes a shot on goal but blocked by Smith. Kings were able to show their strength after the penalty kill attack the defensive side of the Coyotes. they would then take it to the Kings side of the ice and create a lot of traffic on the net. A pile of Kings and Coyotes players blocking Jonathan Quick;s point of view but was able to block to shots from Ray Whitney and Brule. Showing the great defensive goal tending that Quick has played throughout the 2012 playoffs.

5:43 second into the period Shane Doan increases the shots on goals for Phoenix with a shot on Quick, but stops the puck to cause a face-off in which the Kings are able to win. At 6:39 Kopitar tries to regain the lead trying to control the puck to get a shot but Kesla works to block his advantage. The strength of Kopitar is able to get the biscuit towards Smith but is easily blocked.

The Kings will go two on one with Mike Richards and Dwight King going at the net. Richards takes the shot Smith deflects to King who puts the biscuit in the basket to take a one goal lead over the Coyotes. Score is now 2 goals to one.

After the goal the Kings are able to keep the puck pressuring the Coyote defense but Kopitar is called for a penalty for goalie interference giving the Coyotes the one man advantage as we go half way through the second period of play. Coyotes takes advantage of the one man advantage keeping most of the power play on the Kings side with the Kings able to clear the puck twice. The Kings are able to kill another power play not allowing the Coyotes the advantage that could have helped them tie the game.

12:20 into the period Brown is able get a breakaway alone ahead of two Coyotes but with clear penalty on Brown is unable find the back of the net. 30 seconds later Dustin Penner is able to find some daylight to shoot the puck but Smith blocks his shot. The Coyotes would take the offensive and take a shot on Quick by Coyote Antoine Vermette. Quick will block the puck which will lead to the kings shot attempt against Smith but as a couple seconds early for the Coyotes the Kings would be unsuccessful with a shot attempt by Trevor Lewis on Smith.

16:09 Vermette of the Coyotes get open and has a great look at the net. He fires the hard shot but Quick stops the hard shot. It will soon start getting physical by both team as the decide to dance behind the Phoenix net after Doan hits the Kings Drew Doughty on the boards.

16:59 Lauri Korpikoskio of the Coyotes is able to take a shot but unable to get it by Quick with both teams playing strong defense. Martin Hazel will also get free to try and tie the game but is unable too as Quick continues to be a brick wall in front of the net.

18:05 taking the Quick away from the net when the puck slides behind the net but Quick gets back into position but Mikkel Boedker is able to tie the game at two with a goal in front of the net. As we get to one minute left in the period the Kings face-off on the Coyotes side the Kings do not give up after the goal still trying to find ways to attack the net.

As the 2nd period ends we have a tie game again with continued hard play on both sides of the puck.
