The Ontario Reign come from three goals down with five minutes left in the 3rd period to tie in regulation and win the game in a shootout against the San Francisco Bulls last night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

Colton Yellow Horn and Chris Huxley second and third shootout goals gave Reign a 5-4 win leading San Francisco 3 to 1 in the shootout frame. Yellow Horn ended the game with a goal during the shootout, an assist and +2 in the game. Huxley would end the game with a shootout goal and a +1 the game.

“The biggest thing we just in the last five minutes of the game we went to those areas to score,” said Ontario Reign Head Coach Jason Christie. Christie added, “Give them credit they gutted it out persevered and they found a way to win the game.”

The night started with the Reign getting on the biscuit to find the back of the bet 13 seconds into the first period. C.J. Stretch scored the first goal with an assist from captain Derek Couture. Then it would fall apart as the officials made some bad calls sending Brady Calla to the penatly box on a minor penalty for goalie interference 8:56 into the first period. Calla was on the outside of the goalie crease when he was pushed over when traffic was building in front of the San Francisco net.

San Francisco would take advantage scoring 2 goals at 9:30 by Jeff Bowers with an assist by Sacha Guimond and at 14:49 unassisted by Matt Carter in the first period. San Francisco would return in the second and the third period scoring a goal in each period to extend the lead to 4-1.

Couture would spark the Reign with his aggressive play that would eventually lead to open opportunities to find the net and with a little over 4 minutes left to play in the third period Dan Desilva started the beginning of three goals within three minutes. Also adding into the scoring was Couture and Vincent LoVerde that sent the game into overtime and eventually the shootout win.

“It is identifying the momentum and you have to do something to change it around, a big fight, a goal anything like that would change it around,” said Couture on his play on Wednesday evening.

The Reign will take the momentum of this win on a five game road trip that will start with a stop in Gwenette to face the Gladiators on Friday, October 19 and end in Las Vegas on Saturday, November 3. The Reign return home on Sunday, November 4 to face the Bakersfield Condors.
