PaleyFest LA: Jane The Virgin

Hollywood, CA-Paley Fest 2015 ended with a bang yesterday with Jane The Virgin closing up the afternoon. Paley Fest was held in the beautiful Dolby Theater in Hollywood this year and it gave a chance for tv fanatics to “get their fix.” Ticket holders were able to attend panels of the cast of various shows as well as get autographs and pictures.

As we entered the theater the first thing we saw was a huge screen and underneath, a row of empty chairs were center stage. We were welcomed to the event by BuzzFeed’s Jaret Wieselman, who was the moderator of the discussion.

He excitedly went on to tell us that we were about to watch episode 16  which doesn’t air until tonight at 9PM. Throughout the show the theater was filled with laughs and at the end groans because we were all left hanging wondering what was going to happen next with Jane.

Wieselman then brough out the cast. We were so fortunate to have Gina Rodriguez, Justin Baldoni, Jaime Camil, Brett Dier, Andrea Navedo, Yael Grobglas, Ivonne Coll, as well as writer Jennie Snyder and executive producer Ben Silverman talk to us about their experiences on the show.

It is very easy to say that this panel was truly uplifting and motivating. There were so many touching and humble moments that at one point I had tears in my eyes.  The cast so supportive of one another and talked about this wonderful comedy that also has its dramatic moments.

What really stood out was Gina’s advice to her fellow Latinos. She told the audience to never give up on their dreams because if she could do it, we could do it 10 times better.  She went on to explain how her cultural is portrayed perfectly in the show, and that is why it means so much to her to play the part of Jane. After inspiring the crowd to never quit on their goals, I don’t believe there was a dry eye in the house, including the cast.

On a lighter note, when the cast was asked if they could switch roles, most of the cast said they wished they could play Rogelio, joking that they could pretty much say the most ridiculous things and get away with it.

The hour long panel ended with the audience rushing the stage to get their pictures and tickets signed. The best part about this was that Rodriguez, who was described by her cast as being a sweet and generous person, stayed signing autographs even after security tried escorting her out. It is no wonder why she has such a huge fan base in just the first season.
