Only hours away from Univision’s Premios Juventud summer youth award show, Univision prepares for the live broadcast. This year the event will air from Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Miami, Florida.
Premios Juventud will be the first live award show to take place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, Univision promises to deliver nothing less than a spectacular show.
Performances of The Night
The show will include a huge line up of Latin music’s hottest stars and emerging artists.
As previously announced, the show will feature performances by:
Rauw Alejandro, Anuel AA, J Balvin, Neto Bernal, Ally Brooke, Cali y El Dandee, Camilo, Pedro Capó, Natanael Cano, CNCO, Jhay Cortez, Kany García, Greeicy, Karol G, Kendo Kaponi, Cedella Marley, Skip Marley, Mau y Ricky, Natti Natasha, Rafa Pabón, Danna Paola, Pitbull, Pitizion, Ozuna, Alex Rose, AB Quintanilla, Gloria Trevi, Manuel Turizo, The Wailers, Jay Wheeler and Sebastián Yatra.
Univision also revealed performances by:
- Cristian Castro, performing his latest single.
- Farruko, the reggaeton singer performing his new release “La Tóxica,”.
- The Wailers, performing in the opening number.
- Grupo Firme performing a new song.
- Llane will return this year as a solo artist to performing his new bolero, “Como Antes.”
- Kyen? Es?, the mysterious singer, performing a tribute to the legendary singer Celia Cruz performing some of her iconic songs.
Premios Juventud will also celebrate the 25-year legacy and music of legend Selena Quintanilla, Mexican-American singer-songwriter, with a moving performance. Selena’s brother and producer AB Quintanilla will take part in the special, which will feature artists Ally Brooke, Greeicy, Natti Natasha and Danna Paola.
Awards and Honorees
The show celebrates Latin artists and influencers in music, fashion and entertainment. This year, the show includes 140 nominees and 28 categories.
To better reflect the current pandemic we’re living in and the pop culture trends that came with it, Premios Juventud has added new categories.
Among them, the “Agents of Change Award,” which honors individuals who have used their platforms to bring attention to current issues and social change.
Premios Juventud will recognize Puerto Rican legend Ricky Martin for his activism and efforts through the Ricky Martin Foundation. Also accepting this award is Mexican-American singer and songwriter, Becky G, for her volume on social media.
Yesterday, Univision announced they would also honor Pitbull for using his platform in support of the Latino community. His work includes financial grants to Latino small businesses around the country and the SLAM! Schools (Sports Leadership and Management) that provide students hands-on experience with producing broadcast content.
On top of that, Pitbull has two nominations and will also perform his anthem during this quarantine, “I Believe that We Will Win.”
Artists and influencers are not the only ones getting acknowledged tonight, the “Agent of Change Award” will also be awarded to a diverse group of young people making an impact in their community.
Andrea Ronquillo is recognized for her work in reducing gun violence and leading COVID-19 relief efforts in her community. Kimberly Guerra, for her role advocating for the LGBTQ community, Black Lives Matter, immigrant rights, human rights and women’s rights. And Gaby Cintron, Vinita Akula and Kevin Dick, a group of young medical students, who started a web page featuring stories of hope during the pandemic.
Premios Juventud will also celebrate frontline workers during the pandemic, they will present the musical numbers during the show.
Additional Information
A special Premios Juventud edition of “El Break de las 7” will livestream exclusively on Univision’s TikTok account. The one-hour special will have dedicated segments to the nominees, the performances of the night and fashion. Two awards will also be presented during the digital show.
At the same time, a one-hour pre-show, “PJ Takeover,” will be hosted by Amara La Negra, Jomari Goyso and Migbelis Castellanos, beginning at 7 P.M East / Pacific. The three-hour-long main event hosted by Julissa Calderón, Ana Patricia Gámez, Francisca Lachapel, Borja Voces and Sebastián Yatra will follow, beginning at 8 P.M. ET on Univision.
Unlike past years, the show faces a unique set of challenges brought by COVID-19. Univision has agreed to follow guidelines and restrictions in compliance with local authorities and public health recommendations.
