Rams Cornerback Penalized After Week One Victory

On Monday night the Los Angeles Rams newest cornerback Marcus Peters was fined $13,369 after his game ending pick six in Oakland.

Peters was fined on Friday for grabbing his crotch as he leaped into the air celebrating his first touchdown in a Rams uniform.

Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch, cousin of Peters, has had his share of similar penalties. Lynch was fined $31,000 total in 2014 for doing the “Beast Mode” celebration.

Peters told ESPN “Yeah, it’s a lot of money but it was worth it.”

Coach Sean McVay weighed in on the situation and said the celebration was good-natured.

The 25 year-old Oakland native was acquired during the off-season in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Peters’ acquisition was driven by his ballhawk reputation. Since 2015, his defensive rookie of the year season, he has lead the NFL in interceptions.

The highly anticipated Rams season opener began in Oakland where quarterback Derek Carr and new head coach Jon Gruden looked to stop the defending NFC West champions.

The Rams trailed 13-10 going into halftime but quickly responded in the second half with 23 unanswered points. Peters’ late fourth quarter pick six sealed the game, sending the Rams home with a 33-13 victory.

The Rams now head LA to prepare to face off with the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at 1:05pm.
