RC Quakes drop rubber match against Inland Empire 66ers, 5-2

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes Logo#Errors should be the handle on Social Media Monday at LoanMart Field. In the top of the second, with two outs, back to back dropped fly balls by rightfielder Josmar Cordero proved to be costly.

Inland Empire’s Angel Rosa reached second on the first error.

The second pop fly came from catcher Michael Strentz, who also reached second on the play scoring Rosa.

With the inning still alive, leadoff hitter Tyler Palmer hit an RBI single to center to score Strentz.

In the bottom half of the inning first baseman Paul Hoenecke doubled to center.

Designated hitter Jacob Scavuzzo ran to first on a wild pitch strikeout and was thrown out.

Hoenecke scored on the play with heads up baserunning .

He ran to third on the dropped ball and as he rounded third broke for home on the throw to first.

The throw back to the plate was not in time to get Hoenecke.

In the ensuing inning, a leadoff home run from Eric Aguilera gave the 66ers a two run lead.

They would later get two more runs in the seventh to win by a three run margin.

Quakes’ Scavuzzo would have a leadoff home run of his own that towered over the leftfield wall in the fifth.

Zack Bird (4-6) threw five innings, gave up only one earned run and received the loss.

The Quakes (8-10) have a three game road matchup against the High Desert Mavericks (9-9) in Adelanto, California starting Wednesday .
