Professional pitcher for the Miami Marlins, Jose Fernandez tragically lost his life of the coast of Miami Beach in Florida, in a boating accident, at the age of 24. In 2013, Baseball America said that Fernandez was “the marlins best prospect and the fifth best prospect in all of baseball.” He was part of the MLB All Star game his rookie year in baseball and won the National League-Rookie of the Month Award. Five days prior to his accident, Fernandeez had announced that he and his girlfriend were expecting their first child. After his death, the Marlins announced that they would retire his number.
