Considered as a mentor and inspiration by Elton John. Russell was a musician and songwriter who was involved with a lot of best-selling pop albums and chart topping singles. “Tight Rope” and “Lady Blue” were two songs that he both wrote and recorded, that topped the charts. He also produced and played in recording sessions, with The Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, Ike & Tina Turner and many other artists. Russell had a heart attack earlier in the year and was recovering from heart surgery. He died during his sleep at his home in Tennessee at the age of 74.
