In celebration of the history of Bachata, a Latin American sound that originated from the Dominican Republic. HBO Max Pa’lante! will celebrate with a one-of-a-kind promotional experiences for the upcoming documentary and concert, Romeo Santos: King of Bachata.

King of Bachata is a documentary that traces the ascent of the disenfranchised genre from the oppressed countryside of the Dominican Republic and its unprecedented international recognition that paved the way for Santo’s successful career.

Directed by Charles Todd and Devin Amar, the film is a love letter to the genre inspired by Romeo’s Utopia album. Including moments of Joel Martinez’s journey through the Caribbean nation to find the soul of bachata, the film will also include a behind-the-scenes look at Santos’ creative process.

Before rising to fame as a solo artist, Santos was chief producer and songwriter for the group, Aventura. Since his debut album Formula Vol. 1 in 2011, Santos has garnered 17 Billboard Latin Music Awards, 8 Premio Lo Nuestro Awards, 3 Premios Juventud Awards, 4 ASCAP Awards, and an MTV Award.

His career includes collaborations with Drake, Usher, Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull, Lil Wayne, and most recently Colombian singer Nicky Jam, who collaborated on tracks “Bella Y Sensual” and “Fan De Tus Photos.” Romeo Santos: UTOPIA Live From Metlife Stadium is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of Latin culture that will feature surprise performances from Cardi B and Aventura.

“House of Bachata,” a unique pop-up experience in New York, will transport you to a space that celebrates Dominican culture and bachata music featuring iconic fixtures such as a bodega, barbershop, and salon. Held in the heart of the Dominican diaspora – 421 W 202nd St (10th Ave) – and in partnership with City University of New York, Dominican Studies Institute, the pop-up will showcase the history of the genre and highlights its greatest icons and their contributions.
