Former UFC superstar, Ronda Rousey has signed a full-time contract to join the WWE becoming an official professional wrestler. Rousey made a surprise appearance at the WWE’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view in Philadelphia on Sunday night. After the conclusion of the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble match, Rousey emerged and shocked the crowd.
Coming off her fame from the UFC, this move makes more sense then Brady winning another super bowl. Rousey was one of the biggest stars in UFC history, generating millions of pay per views for her fights against Amanda Nunez and Holly Holm.
Although she did eventually face defeat previously she had become known as an unbeatable force in the UFC. Her first 12 professional fights were entirely one-sided as Rousey became UFC women’s bantamweight champion. She won five of her first six fights in the UFC in the first round, with four of those fights lasting 1 minute, 6 seconds or less.
Her fall in the UFC came after she was shocked by losing two fights in a row in devastating fashion, but that did not mean Rousey ever fell in popularity. She took advantage of the fame the octagon gave her and became a movie star; staring in blockbuster films like Entourage, Furious 7, and the Expendables 3.
Rousey is the biggest star the UFC has ever had so it was sad to see her in a hiatus for so long. This new adventure will surely bring Rousey back into the spotlight as she will certainly be a force in the WWE. The move was rumored for years as Rousey has made appearances in WWE events before, so it was only a matter of time before she was a full-time pro.
Ronda Rousey has said that she is fully committed to her move to the WWE and she is not doing it for the money. She joins Brock Lesnar as both have now made the transition from UFC stars to WWE superstars.
