With the avid success of WandaVision on Disney+, Marvel and The Walt Disney Company have announced an exclusive new deal coming to their streaming platform. The Walt Disney Company announced today that they have entered into a five year exclusive television partnership deal with writer-director-producer Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media, with principals Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davis and Peter Nicks.

With Coogler being so new into the film industry as a writer-director-producer, made a name for himself quickly. With his first feature film being Fruitvale Station, Coogler made a splash amongst tough critics at the likes of Sundance and went on to win several awards there after. Not to mention, making over 17 million in the box office for a film that only had a budget of 900 thousand.

Coogler went from Fruitvale Station to another major box office hit Creed, all before teaming up with Disney and Marvel to write and direct Black Panther. Black Panther peaked on the highest grossing films list at ninth, making over 1.3 billion and is now ranked twelfth all time. Behind the likes of, Avengers: Endgame, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Infinity War plus many more.

Coogler’s first Marvel/Disney picture comes in as their seventh best movie of all time and he is currently working on the sequel to Black Panther. “Ryan Coogler is a singular storyteller whose vision and range have made him one of the standout filmmakers of his generation,” said Bob Iger, Executive Chairman.

Although no true details have been given, one of the potential several television series will be based in the kingdom of Wakanda, which will be exclusive to Disney+. “It’s an honor to be partnering with The Walt Disney Company. Working with them on Black Panther was a dream come true.

As avid consumers of television, we couldn’t be happier to be launching our television business with Bob Iger, Dana Walden and all the amazing studios under the Disney umbrella… We are especially excited that we will be taking our first leap with Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and their partners at Marvel Studios where we will be working closely with them on select MCU shows for Disney+. We’re already in the mix on some projects that we can’t wait to share,” stated Ryan Coogler on behalf of Proximity Media.
