Enthusiasts, surfers, and beachgoers gathered in Huntington Beach, California to amaze at athletes competing in their board sports at the Vans US Open of Surfing.

The contests were held from July 25-Aug. 2.

In the men’s Qualifying Series 10,000 Final Hiroto Ohhara (JPN) rose over his competition, beating runner up Tanner Hendrickson (HAW) in the final round.

For first place Ohhara won $10,000 and 10,000 points to propel him up 68 spots to 13th place in the Qualifying Series standings.

Hendrickson did not go home empty handed, he was handed $20,000 and 8,000 points.

He is currently 14th on the Qualifying Series leaderboard.

The next men’s qualifying series event is the Maui and Sons Arica World Star Tour in Chile.

For the women’s Championship Tour, Johanne Defay (FRA) took first along with 10,000 points and $60,000.

For finishing second, Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) settled for 8,000 points and $ 25,000.

The women’s Championship Tour leader Courtney Conlogue (USA) placed third after falling behind Fitzgibbons in the semifinals.

Ben Hatchell skated his way to the top with a 96.56 in the final in the Van Doren Invitational.

Close on his wheels was Pedro Barros, who finished with a 94.24 and a $15,000 payday.

Chris Russell came in third scoring a 90.31 and $10,000 dollars.

Dennis Enarson had a stellar performance in the preliminaries last year when he finished first but couldn’t compete in the final because of injury.

He came back strong this year and scored a final 90.23 and first place.

Veteran BMX freestyler and Van Doren Invitational defending champion Gary Young finished second with an 87.56 score.

Daniel Sandoval saw a six spot improvement from last year.
He placed third with a final 87.22 score.
