MUSE TV’s Briana Beverly talk with the stars of the new film Princess of the Row stars Tayler Buck and Edi Gathegi about their roles in the film that is available now.
Bouncing around the foster care system, Alicia Willis (Tayler Buck in a breakout performance), a creative 12-year-old girl, ditches school to visit her military veteran father Sergeant Beaumont “Bo” Willis (Edi Gathegi). After a battle-induced brain injury during his service in Iraq, Bo is now homeless and living in Los Angeles’ skid row while suffering from severe PTSD. When Alicia discovers that her next foster parent (Martin Sheen) is ten hours away, she sets out on a mission to save her family. With social services in hot pursuit, she will stop at nothing to find a better life with the only family she knows… her dad.
In addition to Buck and Gathegi the cast is rounded out by Ana Ortiz, Jacob Vargas, Jenny Gago and Martin Sheen. The film is directed by Van Maximilian Carlson who is a Los Angeles-born American-Mexican film director/writer/editor whose work often explores issues of social-justice, like his documentary, BHOPALI, which won the Grand Jury and Audience Awards at the 2011 Slamdance Film Festival. In 2020, he won the Emerging Director Award at the St. Louis Film Festival for PRINCESS OF THE ROW. His documentary, NINTH NOVEMBER NIGHT, was short-listed by the Oscars and called, “One of the outstanding documentaries of 2004” by the Academy. His editorial advertisement work has garnered him multiple Clio Key Art Awards. He is repped by Verve.
