The Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) two-time defending softball World Series champions, the Houston Astros, look to defend their crown against this year’s number one seed, the Atlanta Braves. The Astros are ranked second going into the World Series, which takes place Friday, Aug. 13, 2021.
The game is set to take place at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida, which will be streaming live on MLB.com at approximately 9 a.m. EST. The star studded cast that will be calling the game will be none other than, Brett Dolan and former NCAA women’s softball champion, Destinee Martinez, youth baseball sensation and former RBI World Series Champion (2017), Mo’ne Davis, will join as a sideline reporter.
The Atlanta Braves ballclub has a long reach history on both sides, seeing as how the boy’s team just won the Junior Baseball Division Championship of the RBI World Series last week. This will be the cities 14th, title officially tying Los Angeles for the most by any city with a chance to take the lead on Friday.
This also marks Atlanta’s 37th appearance overall, with at least one team making the RBI World Series 23 out of 28 times. Houston, on the other hand, will be making this their 12th consecutive appearance in the RBI World Series. Houston owns the second most appearances in RBI World Series history with 48. Since 1997, the city of Houston has been represented in the tournament every year except once.
This unique event has had over 200 young people, which spans over 14 different cities across the United States. MLB and its clubs have designated over 40 million dollars to serve these young people, who come from underprivileged and diverse backgrounds and communities, while also encouraging academic achievement and success and teaching the value of teamwork and other important life lessons.
