With their first release, Fear Of Missing Out, via the Fat Wreck Chord label already on the table, The Bombpops didn’t just stop there.

The punk band’s new album, Dear Beer, fizzled on Friday, April 6.

Dear Beer is a four-song-EP brewed out the stories of The Bombpops founders, lead singers and lyricists Poli van Dam and Jen Razavi acquired from their several sessions of drinking.  However, contrary to the upbeat sound that the album projects through its bright guitars and steady drums, Dear Beer actually emulates a portenous vibe crafted by self-deprecation lyrics.

“‘Dear Beer’ and ‘Turn up the Thermostat’ are particularly dark. They’re a bit self-loathing and reflect on negative experiences,” said Razavi “We intentionally put those lyrics to playful, poppy melodies. It weirdly has a therapeutic effect in the long run. Making them light and playful makes the thing that seemed so dramatic to us at the time something to laugh about now.”

Throughout the entirety of the album, van Dam and Razavi abundantly make it clear that they have poured out their glasses on drinking for good. But it is the final track on the EP, “I Call Bullshit” where van Dam and Razavi’s new-found realization can be felt the strongest as they simply yet effectively declare “Couldn’t Be a Bigger Waste of Space” and “Stop Bullshitting My Way Through Life.”
